Mies Bongenaar graduated in 2024 as a production designer from the Netherlands Film Academy in the city where she was born and raised. Mies gets the most pleasure from conceiving and designing the appropriate visual design. She likes to draw inspiration for this from everyday life where the details do not escape her. The resulting designs may also be simplistic and ugly, which according to Mies can actually contribute to a layered narrative.
In addition to working under her own name, Mies currently operates primarily as part of the production design duo Mas&Jap. She has been forming this duo with her business partner Jip van Doornewaard since 2022.
